Who Buys What in Probably Stolen: Customers, Budgets and the Display Case

Which customers buy food, materials, weapons, water and substances in Probably Stolen, their reported budgets, how display case value tiers work, and who to sell to.

Light spoilersUpdated Sourced from one recorded run to Day 31 and player reports

Quick answer

Customers each want certain item types, so stock for who comes in. Display case value decides the quality of buyer: player testing puts the higher tiers at about 145 and 350 credits of same-tag goods. Higher-value buyers such as Foodie Tourists and Foremen appear from about Day 12.

How the display case picks buyers

Items in the display case bring buyers of that type the next day. Their quality depends on the value on show.

Player testing in the Steam forums suggests these thresholds:

  • Tier 2 buyers start at about 145 credits of value.
  • Tier 3 buyers start at about 350 credits. One Chinese guide reports 300 for daily goods.
  • Values with the same tag add up, so several cheaper items can reach a tier. One player suggests four combat knives.

These are player findings, and they don't all agree, so test them on your own run. Offering discounts may also raise a buyer's budget, according to one player.

Selling tips

  • Upper-class water buyers don't appear in the first two weeks.
  • Lowball buyers: The Merchant keeps visiting on Sundays, and he always takes a discount.
  • Repeat sales: Some buyers say they don't mind contraband, then retaliate if you sell to them too often.
  • Selling to Security: Requisition Officers won't touch contraband, so hide it first.
