Probably Stolen Dumping Ground: Scavenging, Wound Risk and Backpacks

How scavenging works in Probably Stolen: attempts, wound chances, the Wednesday Fresh Dump, Georgio’s Assistance, backpacks, scratcher tickets and the perks that help.

Quick answer

The Dumping Ground opens on Day 2. Close the store without sleeping, choose a backpack and travel there. You get 5 attempts, and wound risk rises with each one. A night out also makes you miss one customer the next morning unless you have Short Sleeper.

How to get there

After closing, and before you sleep, click Leave the Store, choose a backpack, and pick the Dumping Ground on the transit map. It unlocks on Day 2 after the Mentor's visit.

How scavenging works

You get 5 attempts each trip. Items go into your 2 pockets, one item each, or your backpack. Drag them yourself, because Ctrl+click is disabled. Anything left on the ground when you press Return is lost.

Wound risk

Point in the tripMinor woundMajor wound
Before your first attempt5%1%
After 1 attempt6%1.25%
After 5 attempts10%2.25%

On Wednesdays, the Fresh Dump makes junk 50% less likely and injuries 25% more likely. Carry bandages: Hemostatic stops bleeding and Topical Medication helps healing.

Ways to scavenge safely

  • Georgio's Assistance: 50 credits for 3 nights, with no injuries and 5 more attempts.
  • Careful Scavenger (free perk): 2 fewer actions, but you're never injured.
  • Proficient Scavenger (1 point): Up to 2 more searches a visit.

One player reports that scavenging tools don't stack.

The cost of a night out

Leaving means the store opens late and you miss one customer the next morning, even with Georgio's help. The Short Sleeper perk removes that penalty, and Agoraphobia forces 2 nights of rest after any trip.
