Probably Stolen Marketplace Requests: Why Turn In Item Won’t Work

Fix a grey Turn In Item button in Probably Stolen. How requests match items, where your stock can be, deadlines, rewards, and what stolen or mislabeled goods cost you.

Light spoilersUpdated Sourced from three guide sites and player reports, not our own runs

Quick answer

A grey Turn In Item button usually means the item name or quantity is wrong. Requests match the exact product and full count, so Medical Supplies (Common) is not the Restricted pack. Items can be anywhere you own them except locked containers. Expired requests carry no penalty.

Where this comes from

The developers haven't published these rules. They come from guide sites that agree with each other and from player reports, and we haven't tested them ourselves.

Why is Turn In Item grey?

Work through this list:

  1. Check the full name. Compare the card with the item's hover name, including words like Common and Restricted. Requests match the product itself, so relabeling doesn't help.
  2. Count again. You need the full quantity at once, and only items you own count.
  3. Check for locks. Items in locked containers don't count. Crates that must stay sealed lose eligibility once opened.
  4. Reopen the terminal. Close and reopen it after you change your stock.
  5. Check the days left. A request showing 1 Day Left still works that day, then expires the next morning.

No bug has been confirmed so far, although one forum thread asks whether requests are bugged.

How to unlock and open requests

Buy Marketplace Requests in Wild's Network. It costs 250 on Price Gouge and Mark Up, 375 on Thin Margins and 500 on Red Ink. The terminal then appears in the upper right of the shop view, and a dot marks unread requests.

Pick a card and press Turn In Item. The whole order goes at once, and the items are destroyed.

Where your items can be

The terminal counts stock in your bags, back room, display case, hidden bays and even the trash can. You can't choose which copies it takes, so move valuable versions away first.

What gets checked

Requests check the product and the count. They don't uniformly check quality, authenticity or purity, but that doesn't mean a bad item is safe.

You deliverWhat happens
Worse than its labelLose reputation with the requester the next morning, and fraud or endangerment may be recorded
Stolen goodsFencing is recorded immediately. Black Market, Revolution and Tight Lips reduce it but don't remove it
Hot goods on a Clean Hands runOne player's test says this breaks the achievement

Rewards

The cash is fixed when the card appears, so events and retail markup don't change it. The formula is base value × multiplier × count, rounded down once. For example, five items at 25 × 1.5 pay 187.

Request typeAsks forPaysTime
Upper Levels rare goodsRare item1.5 to 2 times value7 days
Upper Levels charity3 items1.2 to 1.3 times value6 days
Lower Levels workers3 items1.5 times value9 days
RevolutionVariesVaries5 days

Lower Levels reputation from a request also pays 40 Wild's favor per base point, which can be worth more than the cash.

When do requests appear?

They start on Day 9, or from the start if you skip the intro. Each morning has a chance based on your reputation:

ReputationUpper LevelsLower Levels
Below -254%2%
-25 to 248%4%
25 or more12%6%

Only one card of each family can be open. At 20 Revolution reputation you get an 80% chance each Friday, and the Revolution Sympathizer perk adds a Monday attempt.

Event requests appear when their news triggers, so buy the upgrade before an event starts. Buying it mid-event doesn't add those cards.

Do expired requests hurt you?

No. A normal expiry has no fine or reputation loss, but unique story requests don't come back.
